About the League
Disasters in any kind are always threatened human life, properties and infrastructures. Disaster management is a way to deal with natural disasters. Computer based disaster management systems are rapidly developed to aid human in coping with disaster management. One of these systems is RoboCup-Rescue project, developed after Great Hanshi-Awaji earthquake which hit Kobe City on the 17th of January 1995 causing more than 6500 casualties, destroying more than 80,000 wooden houses and directly or indirectly affecting more than 1 million people. The damage of all infrastructures was evaluated at more than 1 billion US dollars. RoboCup-Rescue is a simulator which simulates a city after an earthquake condition; roads are blocked, buildings are burning and civilian are trapped in buildings. Also three rescue agents are simulated to cover earthquake impacts, police force agent for removing road blockades, ambulance agent for rescuing injured persons and fire brigade for extinguishing the fires. All operating agents operate fully autonomously. In this simulator many routing and resource allocation algorithm are used and there is a great potential to study on other algorithms.
